About this aircraft
The Yak-38 was the only Soviet VTOL aircraft to reach mass production. It first left the ground and hovered on September 22 1970. Designed as a light carrier-based attack aircraft, it was intended to operate from carriers to strike surface and ground targets by day in normal weather.
Its rare playstyle lets it behave like a fixed-wing plane and a hovering aircraft at the same time. It cannot match the best fighters for agility, but it accelerates quickly, carries a broad weapon load, and has a ballistic computer to help with guns and rockets.
