Virtus.pro made a solid statement in their opening match of IEM Cologne Stage 1 by defeating TYLOO in a fairly one-sided contest on their chosen maps, Inferno and Overpass. This win is important for VP as they look to recover after recent setbacks and break TYLOO’s momentum.
Strong start on Inferno
The match kicked off on TYLOO’s Inferno, but Virtus.pro took control early. A standout performance came from Petr “fame” Bolyshev, who anchored a powerful defense on B site with three rounds featuring multiple kills. TYLOO managed to get an early 4-1 lead, but Virtus.pro fought back to tie it 6-6 by halftime. After switching sides, VP surged ahead with a 7-1 run to close the map at 13-7.
By the end, fame had 20 kills across 20 rounds, matched only by TYLOO’s Yi “JamYoung” Yang, who also put up 20 kills trying to keep his team in the game.
Overpass returns with VP in control
Overpass was Virtus.pro’s pick for the second map, and they showed why it suits them well. Starting on the Terrorist side, VP led 7-5 at the half. They then won the pistol round on the defense and held off a close Tec-9 rush on B, conceding just one death over the next three rounds. This set them up to reach match point quickly and close the map 13-5.
Evgenii “FL1T” Lebedev and Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy were key contributors on the attacking side, with 11 and 10 kills respectively, both posting impressive KAST percentages above 90%.
Breaking streaks and looking ahead
Virtus.pro had a tough run recently, including a disappointing finish at the BLAST.tv Austin Major and losses at FISSURE Playground 1. This victory stops their losing streak and is a much-needed boost after signing Perfecto in the off-season.
in contrast, TYLOO’s five-match winning streak, which started with a win over VP at FPG and led them to a title, came to an end. Now, VP will face GamerLegion for a spot in IEM Cologne Stage 2, while TYLOO drops to the lower bracket to battle Complexity for survival and a chance to advance.

Who would’ve thought Virtus.pro would bounce back this well after recent losses? It’s always interesting to see how teams handle pressure in these big tournaments. I wonder how TYLOO will respond in the lower bracket, can they turn it around Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
