Valve has restored the original Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as a distinct Steam application after the game reappeared on the store on March 3, 2026. The title returned without a public announcement and is currently available from its Steam store page.
The legacy build had previously been hidden inside the Counter-Strike 2 settings as a “Legacy” branch, and the two releases shared the same App ID since Counter-Strike 2 replaced CS:GO in 2023. That setup made it impossible to download the old build as a separate product until this change.
The restored page is currently set to unlisted, but it can be opened through the Steam store entry for Counter-Strike. Players can reach the store page at Counter-Strike on Steam. Players who launch the restored build report seeing a message that the game has not been supported by Valve since January 2024. The app currently does not connect to the official CS:GO network, so online matchmaking and private server support appear to be offline. At present the playable options are practicing against bots, running the training course, and loading workshop maps.

Valve has not offered a public explanation for the sudden reappearance. Until the developer provides more detail the community is left with an unlisted Steam page, an unsupported client message that references January 2024, and limited offline modes. For context, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive originally launched in 2012 and was superseded by Counter-Strike 2 in 2023. The split into a distinct download on March 3, 2026 ends the previous arrangement where both versions shared a single App ID.
Readers who want to try the restored build can visit the Counter-Strike store page on Steam and experiment with the available offline content.
