The gaming community has been talking about a mobile iteration of VALORANT, and Riot Games has finally made it official. Thanks to a collaboration with LightSpeed, the developer behind PUBG Mobile, players in China can now pre-register for the upcoming mobile version of the tactical shooter.
Riot shared this announcement today, indicating that VALORANT Mobile will first be available in China through a pre-registration phase for an upcoming playtest. Anna Donlon, the studio head at Riot, stated: “China has one of the largest and most competitive mobile FPS communities in the world, and since LightSpeed is already a trusted developer in the region, we think it makes sense to start more locally.”
The partnership aims to use LightSpeed’s extensive experience from previous playtests involving top-tier mobile FPS players. Operating under Tencent—who also owns Riot—LightSpeed is no stranger to success with titles like PUBG Mobile, which boasts impressive revenue figures and an interesting esports scene. The studio has also brought popular franchises like Apex Legends and Final Fantasy XIV into the mobile sphere.
The entry of VALORANT Mobile means this game will join an elite club of mainstream FPS titles available on PC, console, and now mobile. The potential within mobile gaming is immense, particularly in regions such as China and Southeast Asia, where games like PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile have captured massive audiences.
