The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake might finally be close to release after years of delays and studio changes, according to Ubisoft’s chief financial officer. The exec also dropped a mention of Splinter Cell for no clear reason, leaving fans wondering if that game’s revival is anywhere near happening.
It’s been five years since the Sands of Time Remake first leaked out on the Russian Uplay store, and honestly, the journey has been rough. We’ve seen delays, a reboot, multiple studios handling the project, and even a social media slip-up where Ubisoft had to reassure fans they were still working on the game behind the scenes. The wait has felt endless, like watching a mirage in the desert.
Meanwhile, Splinter Cell fans have had an even tougher time. Ubisoft announced a full remake of the original game four years ago, but progress has been practically invisible. The latest antics from Ubisoft involved mixing up images of Sam Fisher, which was a pretty weird way to celebrate the series’ 10th anniversary. You have to wonder if Ubisoft is just messing with us at this point.
During Ubisoft’s recent Annual General Meeting, both games came up in a Q&A session. No firm release dates were given; AGMs rarely serve that purpose. However, the CFO, Frederick Duguet, mentioned that some of Tencent’s investment in Ubisoft will be used “selectively” to support the future development of iconic brands. He specifically named the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake as launching “very soon,” and even mentioned Splinter Cell as a possibility for later.
The official release target for the Sands of Time Remake was Ubisoft’s 2026 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2026. That timeline seems a bit distant from “very soon,” but considering the history, an eight-month wait may be optimistic. There’s talk that Ubisoft might aim for a holiday 2025 launch, which would put it within the next five months or so, definitely a tighter window than before.
