Ubisoft has no chill, starts removing Games and DLCs from Steam

Update: Ubisoft came out with a reasonable statement that Assassin’s Creed Liberation will be playable even if the statement officially said that the game would no longer be accessible.

Ubisoft, the renowned developer and publisher, is somewhat threatening its fans with a permanent product removal. While it’s not a direct threat and it’s related to internal problems such as server deficiency, players will still lose access to their games, and titles will no longer be accessible through their Steam libraries. Ubisoft has already started the hunt and will continue to do so in the coming period.

Expect to see games and DLCs perishing from your Steam library. The implications of this are huge, as it means that games you have bought and paid for will no longer be accessible. What does the future hold? Will there always exist a cloud of sorts linked to your gaming account where all purchased content can reside forever, or have they decided to unroot all hopes and basically burn our pocket money away? Well, sadly, that’s what the Digital era is capable of.

As you can see, Ubisoft already made a precedent on Steam, starting with one of their 8-year-old and already existing video game titles on Steam, Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD. Even if players have already purchased it during the Steam summer sale which had 75% discount, the game won’t be accessible following September 1st, 2022, and its eligibility for purchase is no longer present.

  • Notice: At the request of the publisher, Assassin’s Creed® Liberation HD is no longer available for sale on Steam.
  • Notice: Please note this title will not be accessible following September 1st, 2022

While the number of negative reviews is growing, Ubisoft is making a pick of the next title that will be impacted by similar actions. As for the servers that will be completely shut down, you can find the list below.

Ubisoft shutting down servers for the following video game titles

The list below does not mean that the games will be unplayable. However, it does mean that their multiplayer counterpart won’t be accessible. So if they keep the flow, it would only be single-player.

  • Silent Hunter 5 (PC) – You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features. Additionally, the installation and access to DLC will be unavailable.

  • ZombiU (Wii U) – You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.

With a lot of skepticism, we have already tried to reach Ubisoft for a comment. We’re less likely going to receive any response based on the scale of this problem. Many gamers had feared that the digital download age would bring about some major changes in gaming, and it looks like those fears may have been warranted.
