Ubisoft announced a free DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage that will add a new story chapter, missions, and a playable area set in 9th‑century AlUla, Saudi Arabia. The reveal came during the Esports World Cup and matters because reports say a Saudi-backed firm provided funding for the expansion.
Ubisoft announced that the 2023 title Assassin’s Creed Mirage will receive a free expansion later this year, set in AlUla. The report follows coverage that the Saudi-backed Savvy Games firm would be providing funding for new Mirage content, as reported by Video Games Chronicle.
The publisher also said the expansion will include “gameplay improvements for the base game and the new location” and that it will add a new story chapter and missions set in 9th‑century AlUla. Who saw a Saudi-funded Mirage DLC coming?
The announcement appeared while Ubisoft is focusing on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, whose first expansion is due on PS5 next month. The arrangement with Saudi interests was discussed earlier this year in a report by Les Echos, which said the funding followed meetings about the project.

The expansion is described as free content that expands the base game to the new location and provides gameplay improvements. The announcement felt kinda out of the blue, given Mirage’s original single‑release plan earlier in the project cycle.
