Ubisoft CEO Reveals Multiple Assassin’s Creed Remakes in the Works

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that there will be plenty of remakes of older titles in the franchise. The interview with the boss was published on the Ubisoft Blog, where it was claimed that multiple remakes are planned. He also said that the company intends to breathe new life into these beloved games by modernizing them for today’s audience.

“Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them,” Guillemot stated. “There are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.”

Guillemot also shared his opinion on what players can expect from the Assassin’s Creed series moving forward. “The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year,” he explained. “There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we’ve announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think.”

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on November 15 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC via Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store, Mac via App Store, and Luna. Guillemot shared some insights into the game, which is set in feudal Japan and features two playable characters with two distinct playstyles, a shinobi and a samurai. “You can choose how to handle any situation playing as a shinobi or a samurai, and have very different experiences depending on your choice. I can’t wait for players, both new and returning, to get their hands on it,” he said.

The game will feature a dynamic weather system that impacts gameplay. “Technology is evolving at such a pace that there are limitless possibilities for evolution. In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, for example, we have a weather system that will affect its gameplay; ponds that were once swimmable might freeze, for instance,” Guillemot revealed.

Beyond the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Guillemot discussed Ubisoft’s approach to Games as a Service (GaaS). “Let’s look at XDefiant. There’s a lot of work to do, but it was able to attract 11 million players in a short time. And that number will increase with all the work done by the team to ensure Season One brings a lot more to the existing experience,” he said.
