Ubisoft is partnering with Netflix to bring the Assassin’s Creed franchise to television, expanding the series beyond its 2016 movie adaptation. This new series will focus on the secret war between two shadowy factions, echoing the core themes of the games.
Although few details have been revealed yet, Ubisoft has confirmed that Emmy-nominated creators Roberto Patino (known for Westworld and Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo: Homecoming) will serve as showrunners and executive producers. That’s a promising team with solid credentials behind some major shows.
The series is described as a high-octane thriller following characters involved in crucial historical events, battling over humanity’s future. Ubisoft said it will stay true to the franchise’s themes of control, free will, and the clash between two secret factions.
Margaret Boykin, Ubisoft Film & Television’s head of content and executive producer, expressed excitement about working with Netflix and the showrunners to deliver an experience that fans will appreciate while introducing the series to new viewers worldwide.
Wiener and Patino shared how passionate they are about the franchise, highlighting that beneath the action and spectacle lies a story about human connection, identity, and what is lost when those connections break. They emphasized their commitment to creating something memorable for fans everywhere.
There’s no release date or casting news yet, which is understandable since the project is likely still in its early development stages.
On the game side, no new Assassin’s Creed has been officially announced, but a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is expected to be revealed sometime this year. Leaks have hinted at new features beyond just visual upgrades, including gameplay improvements.
