Ubisoft’s plans for a Star Wars Outlaws sequel ended before they really began. The original game didn’t meet expectations, and insiders have confirmed the follow-up was scrapped very early in development. If you were hoping for more adventures in this Star Wars title, the news might be a bit disappointing, but it’s not entirely surprising given how Outlaws performed.
Early Cancellation of the Sequel
During a recent episode of the Insider-Gaming Weekly Podcast, Tom Henderson shared some inside info from Ubisoft. He revealed that a sequel to Star Wars Outlaws was indeed planned but never entered production. The project was cancelled “very, very early” as momentum began to fade. Ubisoft’s CEO suggested that declining interest in Star Wars had a huge impact on the game.
Underwhelming Sales and Reception
Star Wars Outlaws failed to capture the audience Ubisoft had hoped for. In September 2024, reports indicated that the game had sold approximately one million copies in its first month, a figure considered disappointing, given the franchise and Ubisoft’s expectations.
Wonder why Ubisoft chose to pull the plug so early. Could they have fixed the game’s problems and turned things around? Would a sequel have had a better chance with lessons learned?
