Twitch has started serving ads for betting operators to viewers in the United States, according to reporting on Dec 30, 2025. The adverts are appearing as part of Twitch’s standard ad rotation rather than as creator sponsorships, which marks a clear shift from the platform’s previous public stance on gambling content. Twitch’s community guidelines forbid users from sharing affiliate links to sites with slots, roulette, or dice games, and Twitch also bans certain gambling and casino sites from using logos or imagery on streams.
That policy has not changed for creators, but the ad placements mean the platform itself can profit from gambling advertising while streamers remain restricted from direct promotion. Some viewers and creators see a clear contradiction in that split.
High-profile streamer Asmongold criticized the move publicly, saying, “So, right now, if you’re streaming on Twitch and you’re running ads, you’re supporting gambling. Period. I don’t wanna hear anymore, anybody ever virtue signal about gambling again. It’s over.” The clip of his comment circulated quickly online and is available on YouTube.
Some fans argue the ad rollout makes both the platform and ad-running streamers complicit in promoting gambling, undermining past criticisms Twitch has made about unregulated gambling streams. Twitch’s competitor Kick has more permissive language on gambling in its guidelines, which has become part of the comparison conversation.
We previously reported on other recent Twitch changes, including the removal of the 1,000 gifted sub option, which fed into larger conversations about monetization and ad practices on the site. See our coverage of Twitch removing the 1,000 gifted sub option for more context on how Twitch’s business moves are affecting creators.
This development arrives amid ongoing industry debate over how platforms balance user protection, revenue, and outside scrutiny. More signals from Twitch or advertisers will clarify whether these placements are temporary tests or a permanent change.
