Vicarious Visions purposes for discarding Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games have been revealed. Being the flagship game in its genre, Tony Hawk’s pro skater is undoubtedly the best and most exciting skating game. However, after the merge with Blizzard, Vicarious Visions had to drop the work on at least a couple of remasters, leaving fans only with the beauty of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2.
This is not an allegation as the source for the report comes directly from Anthony Hawk himself. After the merge, it seemed like Vicarious Visions had fallen apart. According to Anthony Hawk, Vicarious got “absorbed, and then they were looking for other developers, and then it was over.” He also said, “Activision has been trying to find someone to do 3 + 4, but they just didn’t really trust anyone as they did Vicarious, so they took other pitches from other studios”.
So based on that, Vicarious Visions have probably been reassigned to creating Diablo 2: Resurrected instead of focusing on the skating games, which threw Activision Blizzard into searching for another developer to continue the Pro Skater legacy. Sadly, it didn’t turn out well, as Activision Blizzard couldn’t find someone as trustworthy as Vicarious Visions.
The clip in which Tony Hawk opens up himself and talks about the subject can be found below:
I wonder if Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard could kick this into a new direction and maybe see the remasters reborn. The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series has been one of the most successful skateboarding video game franchises, but fans will have to wait a bit before they can experience those classic moments again. At least other games provide similar nostalgia and allow you to play as your favorite professional skaters from back then!
