Todd Howard says The Elder Scrolls 6 is not coming any time soon. In a new interview with GQ, he said the game is still “a long way off” and urged players to be patient. The interview came up while discussing Fallout 4’s 10th anniversary and Bethesda’s wider work. Howard shared that the team ran a three-hour play test tied to a Make-A-Wish project, but stressed that the session should not be read as a sign the project is near completion. Howard said he wants players to avoid feeling anxious about the timeline, adding that he prefers a quieter announcement strategy when possible.
“I’m preaching patience,” he said, and “I don’t want fans to feel anxious.”
Howard also floated the idea of a low-profile reveal and release, describing a personal ideal where a title simply appears one day after a long, quiet development period. He pointed to the recent Oblivion remaster shadow drop as a potential test run for that approach, and our earlier coverage of Oblivion Remastered shows how surprising a drop can be for players.
There is no new release date or window to share, and the interview reinforces that Bethesda is keeping development under wraps while it continues to work on the game.
