This Skyrim mod swaps NPCs for players in a wild MMO-style Tamriel
Keizaal Online lets players take over iconic roles in a synchronized Tamriel, with an open playtest live now for Special or Anniversary Edition owners.

Skyrim mods have done just about everything to Bethesda’s RPG, but Keizaal Online takes the idea in a very different direction. Instead of filling the world with AI-controlled NPCs, the project turns Tamriel into a player-run space where people step into the roles of iconic characters and trade with one another.
The project was spotted by TheGamer, and the trailer for Keizaal Online is doing a lot of the heavy lifting on first impressions. The footage shows a version of Skyrim that leans into roleplaying and social chaos more than solo adventuring.
On the official Keizaal Online website, the team describes the world as a “synchronized, persistent Tamriel” and says it currently has over 600 active players. The site also calls it “the ultimate Skyrim multiplayer roleplaying experience,” which fits the basic pitch: there are no NPCs, only players filling the world instead.
That setup means interactions go beyond combat. Trading happens between players too, so the usual Skyrim routine of running back to Belethor for every little thing is out the window. The result looks closer to a stripped-down MMO roleplay server than a traditional multiplayer mod, which is exactly why it stands out.
Keizaal Online is open for sign-ups right now, but access is limited to players who own Skyrim Special Edition or Anniversary Edition. The full release is also coming later, according to the mod’s own site, so anyone curious about the project can jump into the public playtest for now.
