Nintendo continues to tease fans as the launch of the Switch 2 approaches. A recent reveal from the Nintendo Today app shows off a clip featuring a new mysterious input, dubbed the “C button.” This teaser gives us a glimpse into what could be an exciting addition to the console.

The clip shared highlights that this C button, located below the home button and labeled “C,” produces an endearing sound when pressed. Fans are excited with theories about its function ahead of today’s anticipated Switch 2 Direct, where more details are expected to be revealed.

The sound echoes classic Nintendo charm, reminiscent of beloved Mii sound effects. As fans speculate, some suggest that “C” could stand for “connect” or “community,” hinting at potential social features on the console. Others believe it might serve as a capture button, akin to taking screenshots, based on its playful audio cue.

A particularly intriguing theory links the C button to ongoing rumors regarding mouse functionality in the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons. In this scenario, pressing “C” could change input modes for these controllers, a shift that many gamers would welcome.

Nintendo’s decision to focus on this enigmatic button adds layers of anticipation around its purpose. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long; further reveals will come during today’s Direct at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET.
