Red Barrels‘ survival horror game, The Outlast Trials, is set to be released in Early Access on May 18th, 2022, for Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game takes place during the Cold War era, with players being test subjects for the Murkoff Corporation’s experiments that test their morality and sanity.
The game’s emphasis on stealth and avoidance of enemies, as well as the ability to play solo or with up to four players, adds a unique twist to the horror genre. Players can earn tools, upgrades, and perks to provide an advantage, and the customization options for the character and cell allow for a personal touch.
While the developer has not outlined the content for the Early Access version, players can expect the game to include cooperative multiplayer gameplay and a single-player mode. Additional content and features will be added over time leading up to the full release.
The Outlast Trials also includes a warning for photosensitivity due to strobing and flashing lights, and the game contains intense violence, gore, graphic sexual content, and strong language.
