The Crew 2 has finally gained an official offline option. Ubisoft has launched a new “Hybrid Mode” that lets players switch between the game’s original online experience and a local, offline version. The move closes a long and messy chapter that began when Ubisoft shut The Crew servers in April 2024, which prevented players from launching the game at all. The company promised offline support several months later and started testing earlier this year; Hybrid Mode is now available to all players.
Once the update is installed, anyone starting the game while online will be asked whether to play online or offline. If the launcher detects no internet connection, the game will boot into offline mode automatically. Key online-only systems, including the in-game store, multiplayer modes, and user-created content, will be unavailable while offline. Progress and saves are separate for each mode. Players may export an online save into offline mode, but doing so will overwrite any existing offline save. Ubisoft’s rundown of how the feature works is available on its site.
The Crew Motorfest is also slated to receive offline support, but that update is still in development, and a timeline hasn’t been given. Meanwhile, the original Community efforts have revived the Crew via a server emulator; we covered that server-emulator project in our earlier piece on the subject here. Ubisoft’s recent changes to its EULA and handling of online-only games provided extra context for why this was a sore point with players. Read more on that in our coverage.
It’s a modest but meaningful change for people who want to keep playing The Crew 2 without relying on remote servers. Expect the community to push the boundaries and report any quirks as players return to the game.
