CS veteran René “TeSeS” Madsen spoke to HLTV about moving into a small-site anchor role with Falcons ahead of FISSURE Playground 2. The interview places the role change inside the broader context of the Valve shooter and Falcons’ preparation as they chase VRS points and Major readiness.
Madsen has worn almost every position in his career and the recent roster tweak pushed him toward a B-anchor spot on Mirage. He says the contribution isn’t where he wants it yet, but that adaptation is a matter of time and focus. The move aims to let Falcons capitalise on their most aggressive pieces while Madsen stabilises the extremities. The team looked cleaner in their recent match, which helped reset confidence after earlier ups and downs.
The match against Virtus.pro appeared to be a straightforward win on paper, and Madsen noted that the rounds connected better today compared to past events. Working on economic decisions and converting advantageous situations are explicit practice goals for the roster. Integrating a different playstyle hasn’t broken team chemistry; if anything, role clarity has helped the unit function more coherently. Falcons aim to translate cleaner fundamentals into consistent results at larger events.
“I like to play around people that take initiative and I can follow, build on that, and make sure to make the plan work.”
Adapting to Maxim “kyousuke” Lukin’s aggressive tendencies has been described as straightforward by Madsen, who prefers playing around players who take chances. Maxim’s style forces space and creates follow-up opportunities, and Madsen says his job is to pick up rounds or punish overextensions. The combination of initiative and reliable anchor play is the intended balance for Falcons as they chase better finishes and more VRS points.
“I love playing with Maxim. It’s very easy, you can just follow him.”
On tournament priorities, Falcons want wins but are also focused on building team play ahead of the Major. Short-term results matter, but Madsen framed this event as part of a longer run toward Major readiness and VRS accumulation. The squad is treating individual matches as practice in pressure situations, with trophies as the ideal outcome rather than the only measure of progress. If the team tightens its fundamentals, there is reason to expect stronger showings in the upcoming stretch.
