Ted Price, the founder and president of Insomniac Games, has announced his retirement after a 31-year run. This news hits home for those who grew up playing classics like Spyro the Dragon or, more recently, the Marvel Spider-Man series.
The announcement came directly from Sony’s website, revealing Price plans to step down in March 2025. “I actually made this decision last year,” he shared candidly. After over three decades at the helm of Insomniac, he felt it was simply time to let others take the lead.
“During the past year, I had the opportunity to work with the senior leadership team at Insomniac to create a succession plan that I know will provide continuity and strong leadership necessary to deliver more of what our fans cherish over the next several decades.”
This transition is not abrupt; it’s been planned meticulously. With Price’s departure looming, Insomniac will be guided by three new Co-Studio heads: Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang. These are not fresh faces; they’ve been integral parts of Insomniac’s culture and success for years now.
Price expressed confidence in his successors, saying, “There is no way that I would ever consider handing the reins to a team I didn’t trust to take care of Insomniacs and lead us to even greater heights.”
Dezern, Schneider, and Huang shared their thoughts on this new chapter via an official PlayStation blog post. They emphasized their commitment to preserving what makes Insomniac unique while exploring strategic avenues for growth:
“We’ll continue prioritizing our studio culture built around transparency and collaboration. We strive for a workplace where employees can do the best work of their careers.” Sounds like they’re ready to keep things rolling smoothly!
The roots of Insomniac stretch back to 1994 when it was known as Xtreme Software. Over the years, they’ve crafted iconic franchises, including Ratchet & Clank. The studio currently demands work on multiple projects, most notably Marvel’s Wolverine. Their acquisition by Sony in 2019 only solidified their status as one of gaming’s heavyweights.
