Nintendo is re-releasing both Galaxy games on the Nintendo Switch for the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary. Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 will arrive on October 2, available as a single physical cartridge or sold separately on the Nintendo eShop. That finally brings Galaxy 2 to Switch.
An official trailer accompanied the announcement and confirms release details and packaging. Two commemorative amiibo are planned for April 2, 2026 – one showing Mario and a Luma mid-warp and another featuring Rosalina reading to a Luma. The boxed cartridge bundles both games together physically, while each title will also be purchasable as a separate digital download. The physical bundle choice is a curious move given Super Mario 3D All-Stars already collects some classic 3D Mario entries.
Gameplay differences remain intact: Super Mario Galaxy 2 expands the original with new levels, Yoshi, and a higher difficulty curve that rewards precision platforming. Both Galaxy games are widely regarded as high points of 3D platform design, and the Switch release finally gives modern players easy access to the sequel.
