Kalypso Media has officially announced Sudden Strike 5, the next chapter in their long-running World War II real-time strategy series, scheduled for release on PC in 2026. This new installment promises large-scale tactical battles, featuring a substantial roster of units and multiple approaches to combat.
Set across Europe and North Africa, Sudden Strike 5 will feature a 25-mission campaign where players command more than 300 authentic units. Yes, you read that right—over 190 vehicles and 110 infantry units, including iconic hardware like the Sherman tank, Messerschmitt Bf 109, and T-34. Imagine the chaos and strategy that many units can bring to the table.
The gameplay encourages diverse tactics: capture strategic points to call in reinforcements, blow up bridges to stall enemy advances, or simply outthink your opponent by managing supplies and positioning. Players can also select Commanders tailored to their style, offensive, defensive, or tactical, with special abilities such as deploying smoke grenades or improving artillery precision. It’s a neat layer of customization that could tip battles in your favor.
Camera options are expanded, allowing zooming out for a full strategic overview or zooming in to witness the frontline action up close. This flexibility might help players better control the battlefield’s ebb and flow. Watch the announcement trailer here:
