Stellar Blade, originally a PS5 action game, might soon be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. This news comes after the game’s impressive performance on Steam, prompting developer Shift Up to consider a port for Nintendo’s upcoming console.
According to a report from PlayForum, Shift Up has gifted many Nintendo Switch 2 systems to its employees, which some take as a sign that development is underway. However, the developer told PlayForum that “nothing is confirmed” yet and that they are “reviewing various possibilities internally.” So, it’s still early days for any official announcements.
Initially published by Sony Interactive Entertainment on PS5 and PC, Stellar Blade’s potential move to Nintendo raises some questions. Sony has occasionally published games on Nintendo platforms, but it’s rare for them to broadly port their titles to Nintendo’s handheld systems. With the Switch 2’s enhanced hardware, though, Sony might be more open to bringing some of its games over.
Several third-party games like Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade have already been announced for the Switch 2, while titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 are currently playable on the platform. This growing library of current games on the Switch 2 suggests a shift in what Nintendo’s new console can handle so that Stellar Blade could fit right in.
Since its Steam debut, Stellar Blade has enjoyed considerable success, becoming PlayStation’s biggest single-player PC hit. Earlier this year, Shift Up confirmed plans for a sequel to the PS5 game, with a release window that might come sooner than fans expect. Could a Switch 2-port be part of this broader plan? It’s possible, but we’ll have to wait and see.
