Valve has quietly run a Black Friday sale on Steam for the first time, arriving in late November to fill the empty calendar slot created when the Steam Autumn Sale moved earlier this year. The change leaves late November with actual store discounts again instead of a quiet gap between the Autumn and Winter events.
The new Black Friday event includes a wide range of price cuts across the storefront. One of the headline bargains is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 at 60 percent off, bringing the price down to $24, £22, or EUR 24, the lowest Steam price seen so far. Recent big releases are not excluded. Battlefield 6 is discounted by 15 percent to $59.49, and Dying Light: The Beast is 20 percent off at about $48, £40, or EUR 48. There are also bargains at the low end of the price scale. The classic shooter FEAR is listed for roughly $2, £1.39, or EUR 1.79, and includes the base game plus the Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate expansions.
Hardware is part of the sale too. Valve has the 256GB Steam Deck LCD unit at 20 percent off, dropping the price to $319 or £279. As Jeremy Laird noted in September, that price makes it “a “stellar deal” for entry-level portable PC gaming.” The sale page where these offers are grouped is available on the Steam specials hub. There are Steam-Deck specific picks and Autumn Sale context worth keeping in mind when shopping this week. For readers who shopped the earlier Autumn Sale, see our Steam Autumn Sale coverage for a few Steam Deck-friendly recommendations and timing context 3 Steam Deck games to buy in the Steam Autumn Sale.
Why run a Black Friday sale now? The Autumn Sale moved forward this year to avoid clashing with the Winter Sale, leaving late November without major Steam discounts. Valve has plugged that hole by staging a first-time Black Friday event. For buyers this means another window for both deep catalog cuts and targeted discounts on recent releases and hardware. Expect a mix of long-standing catalog bargains and a few front-line titles on lighter discounts. For shoppers who missed out on Autumn Sale deals or who were holding out for Steam Deck markdowns, this Black Friday sale delivers both cheap classic finds and a reasonable hardware offer.
