Steam may finally step out of the shadows and show off its own full VR headset, widely known as the Steam Frame. Claims from Valve insider Brad Lynch saying people should “keep an eye out for this week,” and that Wednesday is the specific day to watch.
This is still in the rumor column, but the chatter has some heft. Earlier coverage has floated a possible MSRP near $1,200, along with details about a Deckard codename and DV1 and DV2 units in the SteamVR beta. One report says production has moved past pilot runs and into higher-volume manufacturing, with initial plans in the hundreds of thousands of units.
What Lynch said matters because of his track record, and he was pretty blunt about the timeline: he was told by multiple sources to watch the week, and more specifically, Wednesday. He added that Valve would likely want “a week or two to explain the device to people before opening orders anyway.”
If there is a reveal, expect more than just the headset. The coverage names new “Roy” controllers for the device, mentions a Steam Controller 2, and even points to a new SteamOS-powered console in the works. The same outlet previously covered a claimed plan for a late 2025 release and a likely name discovery via a trademark filing, and also reported the mass-production update.
Valve already runs a massive platform, so a first-party headset would instantly reach a huge install base. See our piece about Steam hitting 41.66 million concurrent users for a reminder of scale. A Steam-made headset would face scrutiny on price, tracking approach, ecosystems, and whether Valve plans to push SteamVR as a distinct hardware platform or simply a partner for PC VR.
What to look for if a reveal actually happens this week – leaked imagery, MSRP confirmation, launch windows, regional availability, and any preorder or preorder wait details. If Valve does allow a short lead time between announcement and orders, Lynch thinks a week or two would be reasonable to get messaging right.
This is still a rumor until Valve speaks, but between the beta strings, trademark traces, and production chatter, the Steam Frame story is one to follow closely over the next few days.
