ConcernedApe released the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Stardew Valley without prior notice on December 25, 2025. The new build is listed on the Nintendo eShop for $14.99, and players who already own Stardew Valley on the original Switch can claim a free upgrade pack.
The Switch 2 edition adds several platform-specific improvements, including mouse controls, four-player split-screen cooperative play, and online multiplayer for up to eight players. If one person owns the game, GameShare will let up to four friends play together locally under that single copy.
The release arrived after an earlier promise of a Fall 2025 window that was not met. Nintendo posted a trailer for the Switch 2 edition in September; the official video is available here:
Stardew Valley’s profile has only grown this year. In July it became the highest-rated game on Steam, breaking Portal 2’s 14-year run at the top of the platform’s ratings.
A similar approach to Switch 2 support appeared with the console release of Skyrim Anniversary Edition; that update also offered an upgrade path for existing Switch owners and brought performance and visual changes for the new hardware. More on that can be read in the coverage of Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Switch 2.
For players considering the move, the free upgrade pack will be the simplest path if Stardew Valley is already owned on the original Switch, while new buyers can pick up the full Switch 2 edition on the eShop.
