STAR WARS: The Old Republic update 7.8 Pursuit of Ruin adds Galactic Threads and Dantooine crash site

The December 2025 update introduces the Galactic Threads story arc, a new Crash Site Outpost on Dantooine with a four-player Orbital Core boss, PvP Season 9, and holiday events running into January 2026.

Game Update 7.8, subtitled Pursuit of Ruin, rolled out in December 2025 and shifts SWTOR back into big-arc story territory while dropping new open-world content on Dantooine. The headline feature is the new Galactic Threads storyline, the next arc in the Legacy of the Sith saga. Players pick up the plot after Mandalore Shae Vizla freed Darth Malgus, and the update sets characters on a trail that ties Shae’s betrayal to Darth Nul’s holocron and the Hidden Chain. French and German clients can play Galactic Threads now with English voice acting and localized subtitles; native voice recordings for those languages will be added later.

Crash Site Outpost on Dantooine

A mysterious ship has crashed into Dantooine and created three expanding, unnatural biomes. The new Crash Site Outpost is available to level 80 players and features dynamic encounters across those biomes. Players who bring a biome to maturity can challenge the 4 – player boss called the Orbital Core for rewards, including a Dantooine stronghold theme tied to the zone. More details and the reward list are available from the developer’s post on the official SWTOR site here, and Broadsword also shared a short Dantooine Stronghold video demonstrating the look and loot.

PvP, balance, and live-service notes

PvP Season 9, called Gladiators of the Outer Rim, launched with this update and will run for 16 weeks. New season rewards include an Outer Rim Runner Jetpack mount and Gladiator Armor. Broadsword also pushed a set of class balance changes; players should consult the full patch notes for the complete list of combat adjustments.

Broadsword added Cartel Market items including the Reforged Havoc Squad Armor plus the Yavin bundles. The update also reminded players about live events: Life Day runs December 16, 2025 through January 13, 2026 with themed rewards like the Vectron Tinsel Taxi mount, and the 14th Anniversary event runs December 16, 2025 through January 6, 2026 with a Collections Unlock sale and a new T0R-14 Astromech minipet. A Double XP period will run December 23, 2025 through January 3, 2026.

Active Twitch drops were announced through January 6, 2026; watching four hours of eligible streams will grant the Twilight Acklay mount. Broadsword notes players must link their SWTOR and Twitch accounts to claim Twitch drop rewards.

Bundles and subscriber notes

The new Master the Fight bundle is on sale until January 13, 2026 and includes a 180-day fixed subscription that grants monthly cartel coins, an instant 5,500 cartel coin grant, the GDU MG Droid Carrier mount, several droid toys and minipets, and dye packs. The developer also reminded players that a recent subscriber login event has ended but the vendor and already redeemed tokens will remain until a scheduled patch in January. For a compact recap of what was shown during Broadsword’s 7.8 livestream and the update roadmap, see our livestream recap. This update leans into both narrative weight and open-world content, giving level 80 players new things to do while the community runs the new PvP season and seasonal events.
