EXBO Team posted a wrap-up on Steam about the Encaged mini-event in Stalcraft: X, addressing the backlash and laying out what happened and what comes next. The message aims to close the chapter on the rocky launch while promising concrete fixes and a small apology gift.
Teaming
The developer pins most of the confusion on an internal communication failure. Players were earning event currency in unusual ways, and the team admits it had effectively allowed that behaviour through inconsistent messaging and rules. The post says the studio has learned from the mistake and will no longer leave the concept of acceptable multiplayer behaviour vague.
Economy and drop rates
Teaming hurt the in-game economy but wasn’t the only problem. EXBO Team says its calculations underestimated how deeply players would engage — some people played more than 30 matches in a single night — so the studio moved fast to reduce currency income and drop chances to stop the economy from breaking. Rewards were not set to zero, the post says, and odds remain roughly similar to the Attack on Perimeter case. That won’t comfort everyone who missed out on the early windfall, but the changes were aimed at protecting the wider playerbase.
If you felt burned by the nerfs, that reaction is expected, but the developer argues the quick rollback would have caused worse problems long term had it not acted.
Event state and what’s next
More than 60 percent of players are logging into the Encaged mode daily, which the post highlights as a sign the mode has momentum despite the issues. Some fixes are already in the pipeline, though a few require maintenance windows to deploy.
- Equipment spawn distances will be adjusted so items no longer cluster too close together.
- The mode will gain a five-player option.
- Encaged will return as a regular mini-event alongside other events, with plans for new mechanics, classes, killers, and maps.
For anyone who missed our earlier coverage of the session-style mode teaser, we previously covered the initial Encaged teaser.
To smooth things over, EXBO Team issued a one-use promo code valid until 4 November, 20:59 (UTC). Enter SCX-28OCT2025-SORRY once per account to claim the offer.
It’s a tidy post-mortem: acknowledgement, concrete fixes, and a token apology. Whether that’s enough will come down to how fast those fixes land and how the studio manages future rotations of the mode.
