Square Enix has announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, a mobile game that had been in development since its reveal during the 20th anniversary event in 2022. Despite several closed beta tests, the game will not receive a full release.
The official statement on the game’s website explained the decision: “We have made the decision to cancel the development of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link. We wish to convey our heartfelt apologies to everyone who has been looking forward to the start of service.”
The developers shared that although they worked hard to develop and adjust the game, they felt it would be difficult to provide a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period. They thanked those who supported the closed beta tests and apologized for the cancellation.
Missing Link was described as a GPS-based action RPG for iOS and Android devices. On their adventures, players would have joined Disney characters such as Mickey, Pinocchio, Winnie the Pooh, Woody, Aladdin, Rapunzel, Ariel, Tinkerbell, Simba, and Baymax.

Square Enix reassured fans that the Kingdom Hearts series will continue and that work is ongoing on Kingdom Hearts IV. This upcoming title was announced alongside Missing Link and is said to begin a new storyline called the Lost Master Arc.
Series co-creator Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts IV might be his final project before retirement. In an interview, he mentioned, “I only have a few years left until I retire, I have to decide whether to retire first or finish the series first.” He also said, “I’m making Kingdom Hearts 4 now with the intention of it being a story that I will complete.”
While Missing Link won’t be joining the Kingdom Hearts lineup, the main series holds promise for fans eager to see where the story goes next.
