Sony’s long-awaited PS5 update with M.2 SSD support arrives tomorrow. The update has been highlighted in a recent video by Sony. Aside from the M.2 SSD support, this new update also includes the new 3D audio system for built-in TV speakers. To clarify, this is the second major PS5 system software update. Sony will complete the global rollout tomorrow, September 15, 2021.
The new update will add a couple of new features for the PlayStation app and PS Remote Play app. The update will also accompany the PlayStation 4. The new update will let users customize their control center freely by providing rearranging options for the already accessible control. Hiding some of the icons will be completely up to you.
Thanks to the repolished social view, writing messages to friends and parties and keeping tabs on online and offline players will be easier. Speaking of ease of access, accepting or declining friend requests will now be possible in bulk mode. Party leaders will have the opportunity to disband their group with the click of a single button.
The game’s library is now also reworked, and each game shows its respective platform, whether PS4 or PS5, by highlighting that just below the game’s title. PlayStation Now will allow consumers to choose their preferred video game resolutions. To certify this, Sony has also added a new Streaming connection test to troubleshoot the connection issues and perform further debug if mandatory.
The long-awaited M.2 SSD support will allow users to store both PS4 and PS5 games, including Media apps, directly from the expanded high-speed storage. The only downside is that the M.2 SSDs for PS5 must meet the size requirements in order to fit the case and must contain a heat sink as a cooling structure. So if you’re willing to install one yourself, you might want to check the installation video below. If you want to check the requirements, check this link.
This major PS5 software update will be available tomorrow, September 15, 2021.
