Sony won’t be attending at this year’s Gamescom

Gamescom is an annual trade fair for video games, and this year’s Gamescom will be coming at the end of this month. Even if Gamescom is just around the corner, Sony is not. Apparently, the company has decided to skip Gamescom 2021 without clarifying why exactly Sony would skip this year’s Gamescom.

Gamescom 2021 is an all-digital event due to the lingering issues caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Even if major publishers such as Xbox, Activision, Sega, EA, and others will participate in the event, Sony has opted out. Seeing Sony skipping major events is not strange anymore, as E3 2020 and E3 2021 have been skipped previously, leaving the fans both frustrated and sad.

In the most recent press release by Gamescom, Sony is missing on the list of attendees, and only the following companies have been listed:

  • 505 Games
  • Activision
  • Aerosoft
  • Assemble Entertainment
  • astragon Entertainment
  • BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment
  • Bethesda Softworks
  • Electronic Arts
  • GAMEVIL COM2US Europe
  • Headup
  • Indie Arena Booth
  • Koch Media
  • NExT Studios (Tencent Games)
  • SEGA Europe
  • Team17
  • Thunderful Games
  • Ubisoft
  • Wargaming
  • Xbox

The digital event is supposed to kick off with an Opening Night Live show featuring Geoff Keighley on August 25. The event will last until August 27. Gamescom 2021’s theme is “Games: The New Normal” and will empower and focus on games for society. It will include virtual booths, allowing fans to get in closer touch with the devs and inform themselves on upcoming entertainment software releases.
