Sony appears to be removing purchase restrictions on several of its first-party PlayStation games available on Steam, potentially opening access to more players worldwide. This shift could change how gamers access popular PlayStation titles through Valve’s platform.
A recent check on SteamDB, first spotted by MP1st, reveals updates to several PlayStation games that have lifted purchase restrictions in over 100 countries. Titles like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered had their restrictions removed on June 13, while others, such as God of War Ragnarök and Stellar Blade, received similar treatment.
However, not all regions are included in this change. Countries like Russia, North Korea, and Belarus still face purchase restrictions for these games. Also, some titles like Until Dawn and Spider-Man 2 continue to have heavy restrictions.
PlayStation and Sony have not officially commented on these recent changes. It remains unclear if this is a test run for broader availability or is limited to select games only. Insider Gaming has contacted Sony for clarification and will update the story if a response comes.
