Sony has announced the acquisition of Washington-based Firewalk Studios, a talented developer working on an unannounced multiplayer IP in partnership with PlayStation. Firewalk Studios will now be fully acquired by Sony, making it the 20th member of the PlayStation Studios family.

Firewalk Studios was initially part of the independent game company ProbablyMonsters before partnering with PlayStation in 2021. Throughout their collaboration, Sony has been impressed by the team’s ambition to create a modern multiplayer game that connects players in innovative ways. The studio’s dedication to crafting exceptional gameplay and inspiring worlds resonated with Sony’s values, paving the way for the acquisition.

Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, expressed his excitement about the strengthened relationship with Firewalk Studios and welcomed the talented team to the PlayStation family. Firewalk’s original AAA multiplayer game, currently in development, is expected to be a significant addition to the PlayStation lineup. By joining PlayStation Studios, Firewalk will contribute to the growth of live service operations, enhancing the gaming experience for PlayStation users.

Firewalk Studios, founded five years ago, has been on an exhilarating journey to build a new IP from scratch. Focusing on delivering memorable moments and shared experiences, the studio has gathered some of the industry’s most talented professionals. The acquisition by PlayStation Studios is a natural progression in their journey, offering new opportunities for collaboration and growth.

Studio Head Tony Hsu and Game Director Ryan Ellis of Firewalk Studios expressed their gratitude for the support they have received along the way and their excitement for the next chapter with PlayStation Studios. Firewalk Studios is poised to deliver awe-inspiring new worlds and experiences for gamers worldwide as part of the PlayStation family.
