“Something Really Fun” Coming to Pokemon Go by Year-End

Pokemon Go refuses to slow down even seven years after its launch. The consistent introduction of new gameplay elements and features is a testament to its enduring popularity. The recent announcement that Paldea starters will soon join the game has sparked curiosity, especially given the notable omission of Galar starters.

Niantic’s dedication to the Pokemon Go community is evident. Over 10 weeks, players witnessed the arrival of four novel features, all channeling the essence of community interaction. These include the strategic Shadow Raid Battles, innovative user-generated Routes featuring the Zygarde Cells mechanics, visually appealing PokeStop Showcases, and the much-anticipated Master Ball.

Kim Adams, Director of Art and Production for Pokemon Go, highlighted the game’s recent community-driven thrust in a chat with Dexerto during Pokemon Go Fest 2023 in London. “Community was definitely our focus. We wanted to ship everything about the community right now,” Adams revealed. The promise of “something really fun” coming before 2023 wraps up has fans on the edge of their seats.

While the community is abuzz with speculation about this mysterious year-end feature, Adams has also teased an ambitious vision for 2024. She said, “We have a blockbuster set of features that we’re planning to launch next year.” Although details remain under wraps, it’s clear that Niantic is gearing up for another monumental year. While the question about Arceus features was met with a firm no-comment, fans remain hopeful for big surprises.

One of the strengths of the Niantic team is its attentiveness to player feedback. Adams added, “We always look to the successes of the past and what people have enjoyed to inform what we do in the future.” This player-first philosophy incorporates not just the vocal social media feedback but also in-depth user studies, focus groups, and player panels to understand the needs of both new and seasoned players.

As we gear up for the upcoming Pokemon Go Championship event and keep an eye on the current Spotlight Hours schedule, there’s an undeniable buzz in the air. The end of 2023 promises excitement, and 2024 seems to be gearing up to be another landmark year for Pokemon Go.
