Earlier this month, we shared that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake might be in the works. Today, there’s an exciting follow-up with a similar project that ports the entire world of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim into UE5!

This impressive endeavor comes from Greg Coulthard, who set out not to upgrade graphics but to see if he could bring Skyrim’s vast landscape into the latest engine. He managed it by utilizing a C++ plugin he developed, designed to read Skyrim’s ESM data file. This clever tool automates landscape generation and object placement. How cool is that?

What makes this even more interesting is that Coulthard’s plugin can be used for other Creation Engine titles! So, fans might be able to look forward to similar demos for Fallout games and even Starfield down the line.

You can grab a copy of this demo via this link. And don’t miss the trailer at the end of this article. It’s worth checking out! If you explore the demo, you’ll notice that while you can wander around Skyrim’s breathtaking scenery, no combat or RPG mechanics are included here. It’s purely about exploration, and yes, there are some minor graphical tweaks compared to the original game. Consider it a neat concept rather than a full-blown remake.

Check out the reveal trailer below:

This release opens up exciting possibilities for future projects and reminds us why we love modding communities so much! What do you think about trying Skyrim again? Let me know your thoughts below!
