Skate’s upcoming playtest is causing quite a stir, with more than one million fans signing up to get an early taste. This huge number isn’t just impressive, it actually sets a new record for EA’s playtest signups, showing just how hungry players are for the franchise’s return.

Set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, the new Skate isn’t simply a comeback. It aims to completely switch things up. After years of silence following Skate 3, EA finally confirmed a reboot back in 2020. Now, under the care of new studio Full Circle, this version is being up as a free-to-play, always-online sandbox. Expect cross-play, community content, and live service updates to keep things fresh.

EA has announced that over one million players have signed up for the upcoming playtest, making it the largest in the company’s history. This milestone speaks volumes about the high hopes surrounding Skate. It’s pretty wild to think the franchise has been on pause for so long, and now it’s back with a bang.

Skate will offer all the classic gameplay we love with an always-online sandbox twist.

Invites are being sent out in waves now. If you signed up before June 27, you should receive an email with a code by the end of July. PC players will redeem their code through the EA App to download the playtest build. Console players will redeem codes directly on their systems once invited.

Early access is expected to launch in late summer 2025, so that long wait since Skate 3 is finally about to pay off. Over a million players are ready to drop in before the full release. Can you believe it? This could be the start of something big.

What’s your take on the reboot? Are you in for the free-to-play, always-online vibe?
