Silent Hill f is already stirring up intense feelings among players and its lead actress. Konatsu Kato, who plays the high schooler Hinako Shimizu, shared that stepping into this role almost made her feel her sanity slipping away. That’s some serious dedication to a horror game character!
Set in 1960s Japan during the Showa period, Silent Hill f follows Hinako as a mysterious fog envelops her hometown of Ebisugaoka, forcing her to fight for survival. But it’s not just the creepy monsters and foggy streets; the game’s developers have warned that it includes heavy themes like gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence. This isn’t your average horror game.
Konatsu Kato posted on the official Silent Hill Twitter, and thanks to Automaton for the translation, we got a glimpse of how demanding the role was for her: “I’ve been living as Hinako in the world of Silent Hill for a long time now. On some days, I almost felt my sanity slipping, but it was worth it to be able to contribute to this game.” Wow, that sounds intense!
On June 4, a new trailer dropped during the Sony State of Play event, showing more of the eerie environments and a taste of combat. Hinako wields a metal bar, bashing away at grotesque, fleshy creatures. The trailer was bloody and brutal, really hammering home the dark tone. The developers also hinted at psychological struggles Hinako faces, like losing friends and feeling isolated. It’s like the horror is happening both outside and inside her mind.
We still have to wait until September 25, 2025, to see the whole game, but hearing how tough it was for the actress to play Hinako makes me even more curious about what’s coming. What do you think? Could you handle playing a role that messes with your head like that?
