Several top The Sims creators leave EA creator network as devs promise the game will remain a space for self-expression

After a wave of creators exited EA’s creator network amid the proposed $55 billion Saudi-backed buyout, The Sims team posted on X pledging the game’s mission and upcoming fixes remain unchanged

The Sims development team posted a message on X this week aimed at calming a worried community after several high-profile creators removed themselves from EA’s creator network in protest of the proposed $55 billion sale to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and private equity partners. The team reiterated that the game’s mission and values remain the same, and teased a November 4 update with “150+ fixes and fresh freebies,” with more details due on October 27.

The post directly thanked players and creators for their imagination and creativity, adding, “However you choose to play, create, or share, we’re grateful to be part of your journey.” That message arrived one day after several of The Sims 4’s biggest creators publicly stepped away from EA’s program, a move that spread to others, including some well-known YouTube creators.

The departures are tied to the proposed acquisition and the real-world concerns it raises. Saudi law and government policy are hostile to LGBTQ+ people, and critics argue that partial ownership by the PIF raises questions about whether a franchise known for broad representation will be able to keep supporting those communities without pressure. Some creators said they could not in good faith continue participating while the sale moves forward.

The Sims team acknowledged those anxieties while promising a slate of ongoing updates to address community priorities and previewing content and fixes coming in 2026 and beyond. The studio did not outline any concrete policy changes tied to ownership; it framed the message as gratitude for player voices and a promise to keep working on the game’s future.

For context on worker and community opposition to the sale, coverage on internal reporting has documented employee and union criticism of the transaction and the broader industry conversations it has prompted. Read more on consolepcgaming.com’s earlier coverage of staff and union concerns about the sale for background on why creators and some employees are reacting the way they are.

That post also confirmed a Monday, October 27 update with more details on the November 4 patch. The November patch is billed as the first of ongoing fixes and will include the freebies and the extensive list of bug fixes the team mentioned. Players and creators will be watching both the patch notes and any further statements from EA and its prospective owners to see how the game’s content and community support evolve.

Comments across social platforms show a mix of skepticism and cautious optimism. Some creators said their departures are a principled stand; others have asked for more explicit commitments from the publisher about creative independence and support for inclusive content in future seasons. The Sims team’s message is short on specifics, which means the conversation is likely to continue as the sale progresses and the promised updates roll out.
