Scopely has officially completed the purchase of Niantic’s game business as of May 29, 2025. This move adds well-known titles to their lineup, including Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now.
Along with these games, Scopely also took over several companion apps and services, such as Campfire and Wayfarer. Over 400 Niantic employees have joined Scopely, and things seem to be running normally so far.
Niantic reached out to their Community Creator’s program with a message:
“We are happy to share with you that Niantic’s game business is officially part of Scopely now that the deal has been finalized. It’s business as usual for the Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now teams. We have a lot of interesting content lined up for the rest of the year and look forward to sharing the details soon with our great community of players.”
The acquisition was first announced on March 12, 2025, and closing the deal so quickly, just a couple of months later, is pretty impressive in corporate deals. The transaction was valued at $3.5 billion US dollars.
Interestingly, Niantic’s Spatial team hasn’t released any official statements or rumors about layoffs following the acquisition. From what we can tell, everything is proceeding smoothly. What do you think about this change? How do you feel about Pokémon GO and other Niantic games now under Scopely’s wing? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
