Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier told the Button Mash podcast he’s heard Rockstar is still putting content into Grand Theft Auto 6, and that the game is not yet content complete. That uncertainty, he said, makes the published November 19, 2026 date hard to call.
Schreier described the project as large and complex, with teams still finishing levels and missions. He said Rockstar wants a polished launch and would rather delay than ship a flawed release. He also flagged Take-Two’s fiscal calendar as a factor, noting the publisher’s year ends in March and that gives a buffer into March 2027 if needed.
“I don’t think anyone at Rockstar could tell you with 100 per cent certainty that they will make it out in November. But I think it feels a little bit more real than Fall 2025 did… Even then I think there were people, at least that I spoke to, who were skeptical of that, and I think people feel like this might be a little bit more solid.”
Schreier went further on how big the launch will be for PlayStation. He said that while GTA 6 will arrive on multiple platforms, PlayStation is “the main platform” in practical terms, and that the game will drive a lot of PS5 sales. He finished by saying he suspects Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA and “will not release anything within the blast zone.”
That idea has real consequences for other publishers and first-party teams. Big multiplatform releases can knock sales and attention from nearby launches, so avoiding overlap makes commercial sense. Recent comments from ex-Rockstar staff also touch on the scale and business thinking behind GTA 6, including a former technical director arguing GTA 6 probably won’t be a $100 retail title and explaining how Rockstar handles massive projects; those remarks add context to why timing matters in a big way for this one (a former Rockstar technical director said GTA 6 probably won’t cost $100, and another ex-Rockstar lead recently discussed the studio’s approach to wild ideas).
