Roblox has banned Schlep, a YouTuber known for confronting alleged predators on its platform, and sent him a cease and desist letter claiming multiple breaches of its Terms of Use and Community Standards. This move has stirred considerable debate around how predator investigations should be handled on the platform.
Schlep, 22, has over 600,000 subscribers on YouTube and says his work led to six arrests in the past year. The company’s letter accused him of things like “simulated child endangerment conversations,” “sharing or soliciting personally identifiable information,” and “encouraging users to move conversations off-platform.” Roblox argues his tactics bypass their safety measures and put users at greater risk.
Schlep pushed back hard. He explained that his decoys don’t initiate sexual talk to avoid entrapment and that most chat logs come from Discord, not Roblox. Sharing info with police, he says, shouldn’t be a violation. Plus, Roblox deleted every account he ever had, even ones used to talk with suspects. He also shared examples where Roblox allegedly ignored serious reports, including threats to the Las Vegas Sphere, which he claims were reported to both Roblox and the FBI.
In a video, Schlep revealed he was groomed on Roblox as a kid by a well-known developer. His mom reached out to Roblox back then, but the company only offered crisis resources and didn’t remove the predator until years later. Yikes.
Fellow YouTuber JiDion, who often teams up with Schlep on predator hunts, posted his video about the ban and cease and desist letter. After the ban, fans started #BoycottRoblox and #FreeSchlep campaigns on social media, accusing Roblox of silencing someone trying to expose dangers.
Roblox insists that independent sting operations mess with official investigations and says harmful activity should be reported through their moderation systems. The company claims it works with law enforcement and child safety groups to handle threats properly through authorized channels. Guess they want to keep control of how things get handled.
What’s the right way to handle predator hunters on platforms like Roblox? Is banning Schlep protecting users or shutting down a whistleblower? The debate is heating up, and it’s a tough call.
