Roblox is implementing official age ratings for games in response to sustained child safety concerns, and Roblox Corporation states that this move aligns with the International Age Rating Coalition to replace the current maturity labels. The company also says age-estimation for communication will be in place for all users by end of 2025.
The change means titles on the platform will carry film and game-style classifications such as PG, 18+, or R that adapt to the legal and cultural standards of each region. Ratings will look like familiar classifications such as PG or 18+ and adapt to local standards, giving parents clearer signals while creators follow a common, IARC-backed submission process across regions. Parents will get clearer labels. The move is intended to make content transparency simpler for families without altering how creators publish games.
“With so many families engaging with Roblox, it is hugely beneficial to provide parents with trusted and familiar ratings no matter where they live,”
Roblox has announced investments in facial age estimation technology and other moderation tools to reduce the risk of inappropriate interactions involving underage users. Those tools, combined with official ratings, are described by the company as part of a broader effort to rebuild trust with parents and tighten safety across the platform.
