Resident Evil 9 Teases Leon Kennedy’s Return as Main Playable Character

Leak suggests Leon Kennedy leads Resident Evil 9, with multiple playable characters and story closure.

The recent Resident Evil 9 trailer has stirred up quite a mix of feelings among fans, especially with hints that Leon Kennedy might be back in the spotlight. While the game introduces new faces like Grace Ashcroft, a notable leaker suggests Leon won’t just be a cameo—he’s expected to be the main playable character, alongside others. This could mark a big moment for the series as it ties up long-running storylines.

The trailer shown at Summer Game Fest features Grace Ashcroft investigating the aftermath of catastrophic events, with key locations like The Wrenwood Hotel and references to Raccoon City’s destruction. Grace’s mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, was a reporter digging into Umbrella’s bioweapons, and her murder eight years ago remains a mystery.

Raccoon City’s ruins, including the ash-covered police department, strongly connect to Leon Kennedy’s legacy. Though he doesn’t appear in the trailer, the theory from respected leaker Dusk Golem is pretty straightforward: “Leon Kennedy is not the only playable character, but he is the main character.” That means we might see different perspectives, but with Leon leading the charge.

Dusk Golem describes Resident Evil 9 as a conclusion to Leon’s saga, wrapping up threads from Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 and opening doors for new horror tales. It’s kinda spooky to think this might be the last big chapter for some cherished characters, especially with significant changes hinted at in the game’s universe.

Interestingly, the subtitle Requiem feels a bit grim for a finale. The writer laments that a title like “Appendix” might have been a clever nod to both the series and a book’s end section, complete with a hidden “IX” for nine. Oh well, maybe I’m just overthinking it.

While Leon’s exact role isn’t officially confirmed, but it’s hard to imagine him escaping mutated horrors and bioweapons. The trailer’s focus on The Wrenwood Hotel and the Ashcroft family’s story adds layers, but many fans are eager to see Leon back in action.

What do you think? Will Leon Kennedy’s return satisfy longtime fans, or are you hoping for new leads to take the spotlight? Feel free to share your thoughts below—I’m curious to hear if you’re as excited or cautious about this new chapter.
