The Resident Evil 4 Remake has made an impressive debut in the Japanese gaming market, outperforming the sales of its predecessor, Resident Evil Village. Despite not surpassing the sales of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, the game has still been met with enthusiasm from both critics and players.

In the week leading up to March 26, Resident Evil 4 Remake dominated weekly charts for hardware and physical software sales in Japan, according to Famitsu. The game secured the top position and claimed the second spot on the list, with the PS5 version selling over 89,000 units and the PS4 version selling more than 85,000 units. This resulted in a combined sales figure of over 175,000 units for its Japanese launch, surpassing Resident Evil Village’s initial release figures of nearly 150,000 units.

Another noteworthy new release last week was Koei Tecmo’s Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End and the Secret Key. The RPG managed to secure three positions within the top 10, with the Nintendo Switch version taking the third spot (over 31,000 units), the PS4 version at No. 5 (over 17,000 units), and the PS5 version in seventh place (over 14,000 units). The game’s combined sales reached over 63,000 units, slightly below the launch sales of its predecessors.

Regarding hardware sales, the Nintendo Switch continued its reign as the best-selling console for the week, selling over 53,000 units and maintaining a significant lead over the PS5, which sold more than 38,000 units.
