Rockstar Games has removed the companion app for Red Dead Redemption 2 from major mobile stores, affecting new downloads starting August 19, 2025. This matters because the app provided an interactive map, live stats, and an optional digital guide tied to players’ accounts.
The companion application originally launched in 2018 and synced directly with the platform a player was using. It offered a pan-and-zoom map, waypoint setting, area markers and real-time access to Arthur Morgan’s stats and journal. The app also included a complete digital manual and an optional digital version of the Red Dead Redemption 2 Complete Official Guide. For several years, the app made it easy to check game information away from the console or PC.
According to a Rockstar support article, the companion is no longer offered on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store as of the stated date. Players who downloaded the app previously can still access it through their Apple or Google account purchase history, and anyone who bought the digital guide inside the app retains access. The announcement does not explain how long previously downloaded copies will remain usable or whether any backend services tied to the app will be discontinued.
The removal arrives amid other community developments, including the recent passing of actor Graham Greene and a report suggesting a potential Switch 2 launch for the game later this year, which has been described as suggested rather than confirmed. The app’s delisting affects only new installs; legacy access and purchases appear preserved for now. It remains unclear if Rockstar will re-release an updated companion tool or replace it with another solution moving forward.
