Rumors about Fairgames being cancelled have been circulating online, stirring up some confusion. This co-op shooter from Canadian developer Haven Studio, known for its anti-billionaire theme, is still officially in development despite whispers to the contrary.
Fairgames was developed by Haven Studio, a team founded by Jade Raymond and acquired by PlayStation a few years ago. Raymond has since left, and some say the project is in turmoil. The recent small-scale alpha test reportedly got a lot of negative feedback, which might have triggered management changes at the studio.
Rumors about the game’s cancellation seem to have gained traction after a recent episode of the Pachter Factor, where industry analyst Michael Pachter mentioned Sony’s live service push and suggested Fairgames was cancelled following Jade Raymond’s departure and the shutdown of another studio called Concord.
It looks like Pachter got some wires crossed, linking Jade Raymond’s leaving the studio to the game’s cancellation, which isn’t accurate. A PlayStation spokesperson told Bloomberg that Sony is committed to supporting Haven Studios and is excited about continuing the journey with Fairgames.
Fairgames isn’t exactly coming together smoothly, and it wouldn’t be shocking if it eventually gets cancelled. But for now, it’s still in the works. Guess Sony is still giving it a shot, even if the alpha test left a bad taste.
What’s the audience for this game anyway? Live service shooters are a crowded field, and Sony’s been trying to push them hard. Maybe that’s why some folks are skeptical about Fairgames’ future. Yikes.
