Sony is rolling out a new rental program called Flex for PlayStation fans in Japan and the United Kingdom. This initiative opens up possibilities for those who might not want to commit to buying a PS5 outright. Instead, you can rent it for a set period—think 12, 24, or even 36 months!
Players Can Rent or Lease the PS5 in Japan or the UK
In the UK, you can lease various PS5 models and other products like the PlayStation Portal and PS VR2. The leasing partner here is Raylo, a tech leasing company. Here’s the scoop: the longer your lease term, the lower your monthly payments. A rolling monthly lease is available, but it comes with a steeper price tag. For instance, renting a PS5 Pro monthly costs £35.59/month, while committing to a 36-month lease drops that down to just £18.95/month! Considering a PS5 Pro retails at £699.99 in the UK, that’s quite a deal.
This isn’t precisely a rent-to-own setup; however, there might be an option to purchase at the end of your lease if Raylo decides it’s feasible. You’ll get at least one controller with each console rented out—perfect for those late-night gaming sessions! The plan also includes some wear-and-tear coverage for minor scratches or dents.
Jumping over to Japan, video game retailer GEO recently launched its own PS5 rental service. Gamers can rent a console for an eight-day or 15-day stint at reasonable rates. However, this service is already super popular and fully booked until mid-April, according to Automaton.
