Sony has begun quietly introducing animated backgrounds for the PlayStation 5, but only to a fortunate few players. This feature allows users to customize their home screens with animations showcasing some of the console’s favorite franchises. The talk began when Twitter user chi-m02 shared their discovery, revealing that as many as 13 new animated backgrounds have been confirmed.
The newly available options draw from a host of popular games, including:
- Astro Bot
- Days Gone
- Demon’s Souls
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Ghost of Yotei
- God of War Ragnarok
- Horizon: Call of the Wild
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Lego Horizon Adventures
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Rise of Ronin
- Stellar Blade
- MLB The Show 25
This feature is limited in scope; these animated backgrounds are available solely for the PS5 home page and do not extend to full themes like those celebrated during PlayStation’s recent anniversaries. The community has expressed strong interest in more dynamic themes after disappointment regarding previous announcements about the removal of classic anniversary themes. Fortunately, PlayStation has reassured fans that those will return in future updates.
This isn’t the first time Sony has allowed customization on its newest console. An earlier update enabled players to switch out their Welcome Hub background with preset images or personal screenshots from their Media Gallery.
