Riot Games, the developer behind the immensely popular MOBA, League of Legends, has been working on a new title called Project L since 2019. As a free-to-play fighting game featuring League of Legends characters, fan anticipation has been building, but concrete details have been scarce.

In a recent interaction on Discord, Tom Cannon, the senior director and executive producer of Project L, confirmed that there would not be any updates on the game during the upcoming Evo 2023 event. This news was shared via a Reddit thread, which cited Cannon’s Discord comments. Despite the lack of updates at Evo, Cannon assured fans that more information about Project L would be revealed later in the year, though no specific timeline was given.

Cannon also confirmed that Project L is still a work in progress and explained that the game was announced earlier than most fighting games to garner valuable feedback from the community. This approach showcases Riot Games’ commitment to involving their players in developing and adapting their game based on player insights.

Previously, Riot Games had released a dev diary and some gameplay footage of Project L, which can be viewed below:

The video showcases the game’s unique art style, reminiscent of the original League of Legends aesthetic, and provides a glimpse into the mechanics and gameplay of the upcoming title.

As fans await more news on Project L, it’s clear that Riot Games has generated significant interest in their upcoming fighting game. With the promise of more updates and details later this year, the anticipation for Project L’s release only grows bigger.
