Pokémon GO developer Niantic is running a Trubbish Spotlight Hour on September 5, 2025 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. local time, with a 2x Stardust catch bonus and shiny Trubbish available. The hour matters because Trubbish grants extra Stardust on catch, so totals can balloon fast.
Trubbish Spotlight Hour
Bonuses
- 2x Stardust for catching Pokémon
- Shiny Trubbish and shiny Garbodor available
Note on Stardust Bonus
Trubbish is one of the rare Pokémon that give extra Stardust on catch, so catching many Trubbish during the hour stacks neatly with the event’s 2x Stardust bonus.
Here is the per-catch Stardust breakdown for Trubbish during the Spotlight Hour:
Type of catch | Stardust |
---|---|
Regular catch | 1500 |
Weather boosted catch | 1876 |
Regular catch with Star Piece | 2250 |
Weather boosted catch with Star Piece | 2812 |
Cloudy weather boosts Poison types, so Cloudy conditions paired with an active Star Piece yields the largest per-catch Stardust totals.
Star Piece active | Weather is Cloudy | Stardust |
---|---|---|
No | No | 90,000 |
No | Yes | 112,560 |
Yes | No | 135,000 |
Yes | Yes | 168,720 |
If a player catches sixty Trubbish while weather boosted and with an active Star Piece, the event yields 168,720 Stardust according to the provided breakdown and the event’s 2x bonus. That is the top-line result when all factors align.
- 90,000 Stardust is the minimal Stardust goal for 60 catches with no Star Piece and no weather boost.
- 112,560 Stardust is the minimal goal if in-game weather is Cloudy.
- 135,000 Stardust is the minimal amount with a Star Piece active without weather boost.
- 168,720 Stardust is the total for 60 catches with a Star Piece active during Cloudy weather.
Trainers should plan for quicker catches rather than long attempts; Great Balls or Ultra Balls will help secure catches when Trubbish resists capture.

Mega Pokémon that boost Trubbish
The following Mega-evolved Pokémon grant catch bonuses when active and share a type with Trubbish:
- Mega Venusaur
- Mega Beedrill
- Mega Gengar
A Note on Mega Catch Bonus
While a Pokémon is Mega-evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These effects do not stack with each other, and higher-level Mega forms raise the chance to obtain Candy XL on relevant catches.
Is it worth evolving Trubbish?
Shiny Garbodor is visually striking, but Garbodor is not high on most PVE or PVP metas, so heavy investment in its Candy and XL resources is not generally recommended at this time.
Trainers who want the shiny primarily for collection value should still consider evolving a prize catch, but competitive players will likely look elsewhere for long-term investment.
