PlayStation Portal Introduces Cloud Streaming Beta

The PlayStation Portal is taking a significant step forward today with the launch of its beta cloud streaming service. This update is available to PlayStation Plus Premium members in select countries, allowing players to experience a curated selection of 120 PS5 titles directly on their devices.

The new streaming feature will let users play popular games such as Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

However, this feature is currently limited to PS5 titles only, with no support for PS3 or PS4 games. This limitation may disappoint some players hoping for a more extensive library. There are also unanswered questions regarding whether this restriction will remain once the beta period concludes.

A new PlayStation Portal update releases later today, featuring:

🔉 Refined volume adjustment settings

As part of the update, games will be streamed at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second (fps), providing an optimal visual experience. Also, all features of the DualSense wireless controller, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, speakers, and touchpad functions, will be supported through emulation on the PlayStation Portal’s touchscreen interface.

A new PlayStation Portal update will be released later today, featuring:

  • ☁️ Cloud streaming beta for select PS5 games
  • 🔉 Refined volume adjustment settings

For more details about the update and its features, visit this PlayStation Portal Cloud Streaming Update link.

The beta service is initially implemented in various countries, including Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, and more. However, certain features like Game Trials and game invites via Party voice chat are unavailable during this testing phase but are expected to be implemented before full release.

This cloud streaming initiative represents an exciting development for PlayStation users looking to access their favorite titles on the go. While there are notable limitations regarding game availability and certain features being temporarily absent from the beta phase, user engagement with cloud gaming could significantly enhance gamers’ interactions with their content.

Features available during the Beta

  • Stream select PS5 games in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog
    • Over 120 PS5 games from the PS Plus Game Catalog, including Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, will be accessible on PS Portal via cloud streaming*
  • Streaming up to 1080p/60fps**
  • DualSense wireless controller features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, speakers, touchpad (emulated on the touch screen for PS Portal), and motion sensor***
  • PlayStation Plus Cloud storage
    • Save data and game progress can be stored up to 100GB and automatically synced with your PS5 console, making it easy to switch seamlessly between local and streaming gameplay and between multiple devices.

How to access Cloud Streaming (Beta)

To access the beta, you will need the following:

  • PlayStation Portal remote player
  • An account for PlayStation Network****
  • An active PlayStation Plus Premium membership
  • Access to broadband internet Wi-Fi
  • Establish a cloud streaming session requires minimum of 5Mbps of upload and download speeds.
  • To stream at 720p: requires minimum 7 Mbps
  • To stream at 1080p: requires minimum 13 Mbps

Once the beta is available, you can access the beta by updating your PS Portal to the latest system software and completing the following steps:
